Technifex recently partnered with Electrosonic to create a custom silk flame campfire for the new Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in Medora, North Dakota.
The approximately 44-inch-diameter installation is featured in the library’s Storytelling Campfire exhibit, where visitors gather around a campfire and hear stories inspired by Theodore Roosevelt’s years in the Badlands.
The project presented a unique technical challenge: the museum environment could not accommodate a steam- or smoke-based system. Technifex developed a custom solution using traditional silk flame FX, combined with custom scenic fabrication and flickering LED lighting.
Technifex provided the design, engineering, fabrication, and installation, including hand-sculpted and painted rockwork, custom logs, silk flames, LED lighting, and speakers. Electrosonic subsequently added sound effects to complete the experience.
We’ve documented the project in our portfolio, including the custom FX approach, fabrication, and installation. Based on the success of this installation, Technifex is exploring the potential to develop the Silk Flame Campfire as a standardized product offering.
