Storytelling Campfire
For the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in Medora, North Dakota, Technifex partnered with Electrosonic to create a custom campfire for the library’s Storytelling Campfire exhibit. The exhibit invites visitors to gather around a campfire and hear stories inspired by Theodore Roosevelt’s years in the Badlands.
The Challenge
The museum environment could not accommodate a steam- or smoke-based system. As a result, Technifex’s FauxFire Campfire was not an option for this application.

The Solution
Technifex developed a custom campfire using traditional silk flame FX to create the visual movement and warmth of fire without steam, smoke, or an open flame. Working from the client’s rendering, Technifex provided the design, engineering, fabrication, and installation of the approximately 44-inch-diameter installation.
The finished campfire features:
• Custom silk flames
• Flickering LED lighting
• Hand-sculpted and hand-painted rockwork
• Custom logs
• Speakers
• Electrosonic subsequently added sound effects to complete the immersive experience.
The result is a custom campfire that supports the storytelling experience while meeting the museum’s environmental requirements.
